Kinetic typography for Idea, International Advertising Art (Vol. 13, No. 78, Sept., 1966) designed by Helmut Schmid who explains: “the design is a kinetic composition of the journal’s name Idea. the name Idea in typography using both Japanese katakana script and latin characters dissolves rhythmically downward and upward.”
Hiroshi Ohchi, the author of this issue’s (18) page feature article on the young (just 24 years old) Schmid describes his work: “In his works can be seen a number of experimental trials, and in them can be clearly felt their purpose and necessity. What is his philosophy toward work? To this question I answer with only one word, ‘honesty’. We never come across showmanship nor accidental fad in his works, but we can find his strict pursuit of beauty hidden.”
